What is the Menopause?

Although the transition into menopause is often colloquially referred to as "menopause," true menopause doesn't occur until a full year after a woman's final menstrual period. Consequently, if a woman no longer wishes to conceive, it's recommended she continues using birth control for at least 12 months after her last period.

Menopause can also be induced by a hysterectomy or surgical removal of the ovaries, which are responsible for hormone production. In the absence of hormone replacement therapy, undergoing surgery to remove the uterus or ovaries will immediately trigger menopausal symptoms.

Following menopause, women enter the postmenopausal stage. Postmenopausal women face increased risks of heart disease and osteoporosis. During this phase, maintaining a nutritious diet, staying physically active, and ensuring adequate calcium intake are crucial for optimal bone health.
